The Direct Taxes Regional Training Institute DTRTI, Ahmedabad is one of the seven DTRTIs working under the aegis of the National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur. It has mandate to train the officers and staff of Income Tax department working in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan and the Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. In addition it also conducts specialised programmes on All India basis.

The DTRTI exercises control over the Ministerial Staff Units MSTUs at Ahmedabad, Baroda, Rajkot, Surat, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. DTRTI Ahmedabad conducts induction programmes, orientation programmes and specialised programmes for officers and Inspectors. MSTUs cater to the rest of the cadres.

Over the period the share of Direct Taxes in the revenue collections of the Government of India has been steadily increasing. This has given rise to the need for well-trained manpower in the income Tax Department with sound knowledge of law and procedures. Chanakya has been quoted “One should collect taxes like a honeybee, which sucks just the right amount of honey from the flower so that both can survive”. The motto of the Department is to deal with the tax evaders with a firm hand and facilitate honest tax payers with efficient service. There is an increased focus on improving the delivery of services to the tax payers. The Income Tax department has also emphasised on the increased importance of values and ethics at work place. The training division of the income Tax Department has been focussing on the capacity building of its Human Resources with a view to build above competencies.

The DTRTI, Ahmedabad has established its presence in the department with a focus on quality training. In terms of performance, the institute has shown an exponential rise in terms of number of programmes, number of trainees covered.

DTRTI, Ahmedabad conducted training programmes including seminars on various subjects and topics to Officers/Officials of all cadres ranging from CsIT/CsIT A /Addl.CsIT to Inspectors of Gujarat and Rajasthan regions.  The training programmes included 60 working days’ Induction Course for Newly Recruited Inspectors, Orientation course for Newly Promoted Inspectors, Specialised courses on Investigation techniques and assessment, Information technology and ITD applications to Officers/Officials of all cadres ranging from Pr.CsIT to Inspectors of Gujarat and Rajasthan regions, Better Life after 60 Course for  Retiring officials, Course for retired officials, Developing Managerial Skills, Dept. Exam oriented course for SC/ST officials etc. A course on “Court-Craft – Effective representation before judicial authorities” was also conducted  and target trainees were Addl.CsIT to ACsIT from all over India. The DTRTI, Ahmedabad is also leading in the fray of implementation of Raj-Bhasha Hindi. It has already conducted various Rajbhasha Karyashalas and scrupulously spreading the message of pride, pleasure and satisfaction in using Rajbhasha amongst the Officers and Officials of the Region. The Computer Training Package in ITD/ITBA designed and prepared by DTRTI, Ahmedabad has received applause and recognition by NADT. We constantly evolve ourselves with a view to excel in the field of training.

The faculty of DTRTI, Ahmedabad comprises a healthy blend of committed and experienced faculty. The faculty combine the richness of their field experience with strong academic credentials to provide a stimulating atmosphere for learning. The hard work and the efforts put in by the faculty is evident from the exponential growth in the performance of the DTRTI. We also get benefited from the rich experience of the officers posted in Rajasthan and Gujarat as also from all part of the country.
